Sleep in on Sunday, play a round of golf or take a hike. Take your family out for lunch or see a movie. Then, at the close of a beautiful day, celebrate the joys of God's creation at our evening service. Worshiping with us is the perfect way to end a perfect day.

Our worship time may seem odd, but...
As early as the sixth century, monks in the monasteries of the Old World celebrated an early evening service called "vespers." While we're not a bunch of monks, we realize at Spirit of the Desert that the worship of God doesn't have to be limited to the morning hours. Worshiping God in the fading vesper light of a desert evening is an especially moving experience, and one that we hope you'll soon share with us.

Come as you are.

You don't have to dress up to come to Spirit of the Desert. There's nothing "suit and tie" about our service. If you show up in hiking shorts or a tux with tails you'll feel right at home in our friendly, caring community. Don't worry about your background or the way you dress. We really don't care what you wear. We care about you because God cares about you. We're not looking for perfect people. Just come as you are.

Our Calendar of Events

Throughout the church year, Spirit of the Desert offers special services and events appropriate to the season. Visit our Calendar of Events to learn about these special opportunities to worship and celebrate together.

O gracious Light, pure brightness of the everlasting Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for you love's sake. Amen.

Look, down, O Lord, from your heavenly throne, and illumine this night with your celestial brightness; that by night as by day your people may glorify your holy Name; through Jesus Christm our Lord. Amen.
